"About the other case, Charlie. The one that might help pay for
your trip to Alcapulco". - Bosley in
'The Sandcastle Murders'
For all their crime fighting, investigating, brainstorming, clue finding, case solving, and undercover disguising,
the Angels often worked without any reward. If Charlie wasn't chalking one up
to an old friend, one of the Angels were. There
were even three times when one of the Angels actually hired Charlie to help them out.
In "The Sandcastle Murders", Kris shows concern for a murdered teenage girl whom she buys cosmetic products off of. Bosley has called the trio in from their personal plans to work on new case, but Kris
is adamant about finding the girl's killer and offers to pay Charlie to let Kelly and Sabrina help her. Charlie declines payment and later states that a "congratulations" from a former peer at the police station
was payment enough. The second scenario shows Kris witnessing a kidnapping and
asking the Angels & Bosley to help her out("Angels in Skates"). Then there
was the time that Kelly hired Charlie and the team to investigate her past. When
it is learned that all the information regarding her childhood was planted, the Angels don't even consider continuing with
the case to find out who Kelly really is. And it is highly unlikely that Charlie
would take money from his faithful employee.
Even though the Angels did work for free quite a few times, they still seemed to be able to
afford extremely nice living accommodations (Jill & Kris each lived in a beach house) and have the hottest clothes on
the west coast. Aaron Spelling once said, "...How can you really believe there
were three young private detectives making $4,500 a week, wearing $10,000 Nolan Miller wardrobes...". Charlie no doubt had side businesses like The Venus Trucking Company ("Angels go Truckin'") and good investments
to cover himself, for he lived a very extravagant lifestyle and made sure his employees were treated to occasional presents
and vacations as well.
