Unlike any Angel
before her, Julie Rogers stands apart from the crowd as Charlie's most special detective yet.
She didn't graduate from the police academy and she didn't have any technical training.
She came from extremely hard times and even created some more along the way.
Initially, Julie was a suspect in a case Kris, Kelly, and Bosley were working on and when they realized her unfortunate
beginnings and long list of hardships, they were more than happy to welcome her as one of their own. Julie's new outlook on life and her new dynamic personality contained elements of all five Angels before
her, but she is still one of a kind.
Julie Rogers was born in New York and practically raised herself on the streets. She never knew her father, for he split when she was just a baby. Her mother was an alcoholic who would die by the bottle only a few years before Julie would become an Angel. As a wild teenager, Julie raised hell on the streets and had built a criminal record
for herself for misdemeanor crimes like disturbing the peace and fighting in the streets ("Angel in Hiding"). At the age of twenty-four, Julie's bad reputation would land her in the Civil Grand Correctional Facility
for rehabilitation. Needing a dress for a job interview as for a receptionist
position, Julie saw stealing one as the only way to go. In the end it actually
did pay off. After serving her six month sentence, Julie was put under the care
of Lieutenant Harry Stearns. In between reporting to him, Julie enlisted in a
top school for models and became a hot model and cover girl. As an employee of
the Dale Woodman Modeling Agency, Julie realized the business was laced with drugs, prostitution, and debauchery. When she told her probation officer, Harry, she found herself on a new path in life.
Harry Stearns enlisted Julie as a fashionable spy at the Woodman Agency. Forming a strong friendship with Harry, the first one she had ever had, Julie finally found her place
in life. One night, after buying cocaine for her roommate, Jody Mills, from the
in-house dealer, Jimmy Joy, Julie found Jody's body dead in an alley behind a seedy photographer's studio. The next morning her future would walk into her life. Posing
as a friend of Jody's, Kelly Garrett questioned Julie about her dead roommate and met up with the mysterious Harry Stearns. Julie lied to get rid of Kelly, and dismissed the entire thing as a coincidence while
Harry became suspicious of Kelly's true identity.
Before things got better for Julie, they got worse.
Another model friend had just committed suicide on the beach and when Julie and Harry arrived on the scene, Harry was
gunned down by the evil Jimmy Joy, who thought Harry was going to take over his drug business at the agency. All this happened right in front of the Angels and Bosley. They
tried to comfort Julie at Harry's funeral after learning who Harry really was and that Julie was working with him the whole
time. Lost and disillusioned, Julie blew the Angels off at first, then was coaxed
into avenging Harry's death. Her first impressive move was to help Kris and Kelly
get in good with Dale Woodman. When she took a solo turn at hunting down and
capturing Jimmy Joy, it was duly noted how well she handled herself in such a dangerous situation. The true test came when she was faced with the opportunity to blow Jimmy Joy to hell while holding him
at gunpoint. Suppressing her rage, Julie sent him off to prison instead, and
was greatly rewarded for it later.
As Kris and Kelly were reviewing the case and planning to take off to Hawaii to work for a few months in Charlie's new office, Bosley walked in and announced
that Julie had been granted a temporary detective license and would be working with them for awhile. At first, Kelly and Kris seemed horrified at the prospect, after all, Julie was a great contrast to the
dignified and sophisticated Tiffany Welles. Seconds later they decided it wasn't
such a bad idea after all, and welcomed Julie into the fold.
In Hawaii, Julie
earned high marks for her contributions to cases. Kelly, Kris, Bosley, and Charlie
were all especially proud of her and told her so repeatedly. They were also very
protective of her. When Julie was kidnapped in "Hula Angels", Kris blamed herself
and Charlie was so worried that he put up a million dollar ransom for the original kidnap victim, a wealthy nightclub owner. Like Kris before her, who was also the youngest Angel at the time, Julie showed her
vulnerability and naiveté. She didn't always know just what to do and sometimes
messed things up. Most notably was when she was faced with a mob boss named "Papa"
Joe ("He Married an Angel"). After trashing his meat packing plant and thwarting
his henchmen, Julie was at an absolute loss for a good lie about who she really was.
When she finally did find the right words to say, Julie was released, but had just tapped Charlie for a worthy donation
to a prestigious art gallery! By the end of her career at Townsend Associates,
Julie had developed much better detective skills and proved she was just as much a part of the team as Kris and Kelly.
When Kelly received yet another bullet wound to the head ("Let Our Angel Live"),
Julie was just as torn up as Kris and Bosley, only Kris couldn't imagine how she could have been. In a tearful confession, Julie told Kris how much being an Angel meant to her and of the great loss she
has felt since Harry's death. Being a part of the "family" had changed Julie's
life for the better and her sincere gratitude is felt by all. All the Angels,
except Tiffany, had been exposed to great horrors. When Kelly was shot up with
heroine in "Avenging Angel", her anguish at the trepidation of drug addiction is extremely heartfelt, as is Sabrina's in "Angel
in Love" when she realizes the first man she has loved in a long time is a thief. Still,
it is Julie's tears in "Angel in Hiding" and "Let Our Angel Live" that are the most sincere.
When Julie identified with a runaway teenager in "Hula Angels", her compassion is truly genuine.
Julie had Sabrina's spunk, Jill's sex appeal, Kris's innocence, Tiffany's style,
and Kelly's grace. These elements combined make her the ultimate Angel. As a model she could have had an extensive career and even maybe branched into film
work. As a detective though, Julie earned self respect and friends. She is without a doubt the sexiest Angel by far, but she is also probably the most special. Julie's been on both sides of the law and her street smarts were something that the Angels had never really
had before. While Charlie and the Angels may be the best thing to ever happen
to Julie, she is without a doubt one of the best things to ever happen to them.
